Every year a list of the most-famous names for new-born babies in Germany is published. There are names that stay relevant over the years and names that come and disappear without a trace.
Oftentimes celebrities are role-models. And their names, too. After Germany won the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time – back in 1982 – it was the name “Nicole”. Last year Germany was the winner again. But “Lena” didn’t make it to the top of the list.
For girls it was “Sofie” or Sophie”. For boys the most famous name was “Maximilian” – like it alredy was in 2008 and 2009.
As a sidenote: 20 years ago parents took names of their (grand)parents to name their children. “Horst”, “Winfried”, and so on…
