While crossing Nevada during our last vacation trip, we took a break in Hawthorne and learned it’s main claim to fame is the Hawthorne Army Ammunition Depot, which is the world’s largest ammunition storage depot of its kind. The depot was officially opened in 1930 and is an essential benefactor for  Hawthorne’s economy.

We found out it is employing up to 700 of the town’s 3,900 residents and infusing more than $31 million annually into the local economy.
