SXSW – What’s the story behind the South By Southwest Festival? [plus Video & facts about Austin, Texas]

Every year creatives, newbies and well-known names from the worlds of music, film and digitality come to a town in Texas. Since 1987 Austin becomes the place for ideas and communication – for almost two weeks and always in March. The magic word is South By Southwest (SXSW).

South By Southwest is one of three festivals run by SXSW Inc. A company planning and executing conferences, trade shows, festivals and various other events.

For the town of Austin South By Southwest is the highest revenue-producing event. In 2012 it brought an estimated economic impact of 190.3 Million Dollars.
